Aspley over the years
Located on the Wimmera Highway roughly half way between Edenhope and Naracoorte is the tiny town of Aspley. It has a primary school with two school runs plus a high school run into Edenhope. The operator of the local services was the partnership of Taylor & Bell, who were around by 1962. The runs were from the primary School to Newlands Estate (west) and to Bringalbert (north). The buses were garaged at the service station which was also part of the business.
The fleet comprised:
HOG 072 Austin (FC)/ R.E. Mee (1962) B25F. sold in 1977.
HUU 850 Austin (FC)/ R.E. Mee (9/63) B25F. Sold NPSV 1979.
ITJ 099 Mazda Parkway (1977) B18C.
ALR 909 Mazda Parkway (1979) B18C.
Taylor & Bell sold their runs, with the two Mazdas, to GM (Gary) & JA (Jeanette) McGinty, t/a McGinty’s Buses Aspley (the same family with runs in Edenhope, Horsham, Nhill etc). This is believed to have occurred around 1988. The McGinty family also has a large sheep and cattle grazing property just outside the town. Their son mechanic Dean ran the Aspley business up until he relocated at the time when the Magor’s Bus Service in South Australia was purchased in 2008.
After inheriting the two Mazdas from Taylor & Bell the subsequent fleet was.
